It’s an exciting day for sports with a TNT basketball double header between the Magic vs Thunder and Heat vs Nuggets while Purdue vs Minnesota college basketball will be featured on ESPN. Hockey betting action will have its own exciting match-up between the 5th place Ottawa Senators (Northeast 16-21-6) travel to face the 4th place New York Islanders (Atlantic 13-21-7). The game can be seen live on MSG+ and TSN television from Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:00pm EST. Online sportsbooks have opened with the Senators as a -115 favorite in NHL picks vs the Islanders -105 with an over/under betting total of 5.5 OVER (-115).
Sportsbooks also favor Ottawa -1.5 (+245) in puck line NHL odds vs New York +1.5 (-290) for Thursday night’s game. Although the Senators are slightly favored in hockey betting odds vs the Islanders, they have failed to get a win in their six games including a 0-6 thrashing at the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night as +158 road underdogs in NHL picks. Ottawa has been outscored 24-7 during their current losing streak, have failed to find the net more than twice in their last four and have been shut out twice. The Senators are hoping that the starting debut of C Corey Locke and G Robin Lehner will provide a spark for the rapidly falling franchise. Lehner was a second-round pick for Ottawa in 2009 and at 19-years old, will be the youngest goalie in Senators history to start a game.
New York has been one of the most inconsistent team in the league when it comes to hockey betting as the Islanders have gone 2-5 in their last seven games and are coming off two consecutive losses. New York was shut out on the road by the Chicago Blackhawks 0-5 last Sunday and lost a thrilling 3-4 shoot-out at home vs the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday evening as +210 underdogs in NHL picks. C John Tavares leads the Islanders in goals earning his 15th goal of the season vs Vancouver while RW Blake Comeau buried the puck for the third time in just four games to net 11-total goals. New York would seem to have the upper hand in tonight’s match-up having gone 4-2 for their last six games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and are 4-2 vs the Senators in their most recent meetings.
NHL Picks: New York Islanders -105
